So this episode we totally failed to keep the show close to 3 hours, and yes that has been our goal. Hopefully you “short episoders” won’t abandon us for it, as I think we have a really fun episode here, full of interesting news (both for the hobby and the show!), some funny parts, new commercials (oh boy!) and enough Vampire Counts talk to fill well over 1 1/2 episodes of those “normal length” podcasts.

Seriously though, we talk a bunch about new stuff, then get into a discussion about painting paralysis (or burnout). We cover some upcoming tournaments and then settle down to discuss this new book and what we think. (I know, it’s a lot of theory-hammer, but is that so bad? You know you sit around having these same discussions in your garages and basements!)

For those of you who feel annoyed that we don’t have any “hard facts for hard lists” type stuff, don’t worry. This is going to be all David does with Warhammer until Adepticon, so after that we will revisit Sylvania and get a more educated look at the VC and their minions.

Oh, and I couldn’t resist dropping in a bit of music and other goodies. Hope you like them. What can I say? I friggin’ love Vampires!

Hope you enjoy!

Christmas is happening, that’s what!We may be into 2012, but we are bringing gifts to the various armies of the Warhammer world as we look over the army books and decide what we would do if we were able to “tweak” each book.

So Christopher and I chat about about the upcoming VC book, and our usual Garage ManaGeR stuff before getting into the meat of this episode. So what's happening? Christmas is happening, that's what!We may be into 2012, but we are bringing gifts to the various armies of the Warhammer world as we look over the army books and decide what we would do if we were able to "tweak" each book.

Hope you enjoy!

So here is the long awaited Episode 5 of Garagegamer!
Today, we had Bryan Steele with us. He gave us a demo game and, since he is working on the fluff for the company, who better to have on and discuss the game?

Here’s the basic show breakdown without all the “Show Index” stuff from our usual episodes: We have the intro and then we talk about the producers of the game for a few minutes before going into the fluff of the game. (Since that’s the stuff Bryan’s working on…again, who better do talk about it?) We get the background of the world and the origins of the factions. This is good stuff (so good even Christopher was hooked!) and it’s a fun listen. We take a break around the 57 minute mark (57:15-57:45) and when we come back we start discussing game mechanics. Setup. The basic turn. Victory conditions. The D20 system employed by the game. Basically everything.

After that, we announce the winner of the “Dwarf King’s Hold” contest that we announced on the previous Garagegamer (yes, we know it was forever ago) and wrap up the show at about 2 hours 3 minutes.

Hope you enjoy this one. Dark Age is a cool game and with a $20 core rule book and starter faction boxes between $35 and $55 it’s easy to get started and give the game a go.
Enjoy!!!

So here we tackle the second half of “Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos” as well as the Chaos and Empire Bestiaries. Before that we talk about all the new releases from GW. Of Course, in the rumors section we start talking about the next (possible) army book and start wishlisting. We also have the local tournament updates as well as a short segment from The Phoenix Prince! So sit back and enjoy this one, because our whole “We are trying to keep the show under 4 hours,” thing just didn’t happen with all that tamurkhan goodness.

Also, after the end of the episode, because so many people are asking for it (though I can’t figure out why), we included some of the stuff that wound up on the cutting room floor.

WARNING! We go over the second half of the story of Tamurkhan in complete detail. If you are planning on reading the story of Tamurkhan on your own you really need to consider skipping over this part! We cover the first three of the six chapters in the Tamurkhan story. TOTAL SPOILERS!!!

Hope you enjoy!

So here we tackle the second half of "Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos" as well as the Chaos and Empire Bestiaries. Before that we talk about all the new releases from GW. Of Course, in the rumors section we start talking about the next (possible) army book and start wishlisting. We also have the local tournament updates as well as a short segment from The Phoenix Prince! So sit back and enjoy this one, because our whole "We are trying to keep the show under 4 hours," thing just didn't happen with all that tamurkhan goodness.

Also, after the end of the episode, because so many people are asking for it (though I can't figure out why), we included some of the stuff that wound up on the cutting room floor.

So this episode we wanted to talk about how we prep for tournaments. Of course, we don’t go to many tournaments, so we recruited some friends. That wound up becoming a whole different conversation for most of the show. We discuss a bunch of upcoming tournaments and we go over the Adepticon paint score rubric because it seems like a pretty good example of a straightforward rubric with very little room for “interpretation.”

Anyway, here’s the episode, and thanks to Grant, Chris and Jeff for coming on and being a part of the show.

Also, don’t forget that next episode is the Barnette Brithday Bash, where we begin to cover Tamurkhan, which is just about the best present GW could have given to Christopher. So, if you want to give a shout-out for Christopher’s birthday, here’s your chance.

So we wanted to focus this episode on getting ready for a tournament. While we were planning it, the discussion turned to preparing a legal list according to the composition rules. Since we don’t have a lot of comp at the tournaments here in the Midwest, we recruited a couple of experts on the subject. We honestly expected our guests to have maybe an hour tops to talk to us (have you guessed who they are yet?) but it seems they were happy to talk to us, and you all know we have no problem talking Warhammer…so the one hour call turned into about two hours and fifteen minutes. Of course, this wound up making the rest of our tournament prep talk plan get shelved for a future episode.

First, let me apologize for the sound quality during the skype interview. I cleaned it up as best I could, but we are still new at the skype call thing and Daniel is going to need to make some adjustments for us (plus, skype-ing from six time zones away can impact the sound quality from what I’m told…). So anyway, the sound quality wasn’t the best, but I think the content makes up for it. I hope you do as well.

Anyway, we covered the basics and Christopher and I discuss our game, then Chris Yu talks about his time at the final Core Competence tournament. After that, we added in our skype call about comp, then it’s back for the tournament update and a few listener emails.

Again, thanks to Dan and Wayne for spending their Saturday evening with us, and thanks as always to Chris Yu for coming on and keeping us on target. Hope you enjoy!
