Episode 94 – Adeptikinda

The Garagehammer Toolbox is brought to you by Chaos Orc’s Superstore

So here we are, our annual Adepticon coverage. It’s an odd episode. Chris and I talk about our time there, and then we talk to Dan and Wayne from Heelanhammer for a while…not so much about their games at Adepticon, but more about their trip to America and what they think of the tourney in general. We found the conversation fun and interesting, but the Warhammer content isn’t huge.

I think that it’s a good episode, a fun episode, but the overall coverage of Adepticon might have been a bit lacking. Sorry about that, if you’re into that sort of thing. If you just want to hear GH and HH hanging out and talking about Warhammer…kinda…then you should be pleased!

One other thing. We recorded for about another hour or so with a bunch of great guys, but Chris was gone, and everyone was drinking and the show just went off the rails. No content, just a bunch of guys joking around after a Warhammer tourney. Oh, there was SOME content, but not a ton, and all of it under the blanket of a few drinks. I apologize to anyone who came on at that point because you gave us your time and attention and none of it made it to the final edit of the show. You guys were champs and I had a blast talking to you and I hope you had a good time as well. It just didn’t have any actual Warhammer content. I hope you all understand.

Anyway, enjoy!

So here is the first 1/2 of Descent of Angels here for you! Much like a spiral turning ever around on itself, we discuss the steadily repeated themes and symbols in this, the 6th book in the Horus Heresy series.

Expect the second half in about 3 weeks.

Enjoy!

So in this episode we talk to the winners of best painting, best sportsmanship and best overall from the first US WHFB Masters. Before that, however, we talk quite a bit about our hobby as David has found his hobby mojo again and is trying his hand at creating custom bases for his dwarfs.

The discussion with Kevin Bruins is a highlight for this episode as he talks quite a bit with us about what he, as a regional representative, had to do to help get this inaugural masters off the ground.

I think this one is interesting and holds something for everyone, whether you are a hobby gamer or a tournament gamer.

Anyway, enjoy!

So this episode is a little odd because we had a different plan for the show. We had five guests lined up but we only got to two. We will have our other discussions with the winners of Best Overall, Best Paint and Best Sportsmanship next episode.

Tonight we talked about White Dwarf and Visions #2. The new one seems to have a bit more diversity and we talk about that. The toolbox has some good bits as well.

We talk to Ryan Taylor about his tournament Lost Souls 2014. After that we talk with Gerald Parsley, TO of the 2014 US Masters about all the things he had to do to make the masters happen. We also get to hear from Jerry the whys behind the decisions made and the way our rather unique masters event was run.

There’s an unintentional commercial break as we lose Jerry and some other odd bits but overall I really liked this episode and I hope you to as well. I learned a lot about what it took to get the masters going and when I heard all that went into it…it was quite impressive.

 Anyway, enjoy!

So tonight we discuss listener feedback and forum discussions to start the show.
After that, we discuss power armor and its various iterations, as this is something I often find confusing. Besides, it’s soooo much easier to have Greg explain it to me than to take the initiative and spend time trying to look this stuff up myself. (And Greg answers my questions!)

So anyway, enjoy! We will see you in a few weeks with Descent of Angels.

News and Rumors is brought to you by today’s guests, The Circle City Circuit.

So this episode has kind of been cursed. We had to get together twice to get the episode “re-finished” and three times to get this particular topic out. Sorry about being two days late. I think you’ll enjoy this episode. It’s kind of all over, but it’s a focused all over. New releases, hobbies, campaign tournaments, “regular” tournaments, and then we talk about the different kinds of players and where we see ourselves. We talk about a few things that we just don’t think are cool and why one of us rarely if ever calls someone on things during a game.

I will get those voice mails from the marathon up for the next episode. I just want more time to work on the sound quality!

There’s bad music edit that slipped by and an abrupt return but otherwise it’s all fixed and ready to be heard.

Don’t worry. The Dwarf Spectacular is coming in late April.

Anyway, enjoy!

The Garagehammer Toolbox is brought to you by Chaos Orc’s Superstore

Originally we planned on a discussion about winning at Warhammer.  The discussion was supposed to be about what you do to prepare for tournaments, how far you take your preparations, and how you act / what’s acceptable behavior during the game. Is Winning At All Costs an acceptable attitude / plan? If not, where do you draw the line?

Unfortunately, the topic sort of went off the wheels, mostly due to David getting very passionate (maybe a bit upset) about what’s acceptable / unacceptable during a game. In short, it was unreleasable. Luckily, all of our Paca talk combined with our regular segments were enough to make a show in and of themselves. So why am I telling you this? Well, the end of the show wound up with an impossible edit. I couldn’t make it “seamless” and that’s bugging me because I hate releasing an episode that, in my opinion, doesn’t meet the show’s usual standards of quality. It’s not awful. We’ve all probably heard worse, but it’s bugging me to no end, so I’m explaining it here. Sorry about the rough end of the show. I couldn’t make it any cleaner without doing a ton fiddling with it, and even then it would probably have been obvious that I HAD fiddled with it.

So there you have it. It’s not perfect. It’s a good episode though and I’m sorry about the somewhat sloppy ending.

Anyway, enjoy!
